Eye Patch
What’s the correct way to put on an eye patch?
Should it be very tight, so the eye stays shut? Or looser so the eye can blink?
The eye patch is just to be worn for a short time due to a scratched cornea.
If you have a scratched cornea, then the eye patch should be tight enough to prevent you from blinking. Blinking will just cause pain and irritation. We always have the patient close his or her eye and then apply several layers of guaze so that the patch will fit flush with the face Then we tape it in place and tell the patient not to get it wet or remove it for 24 hours.
